ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer is a solvent-free, rapid drying, one coat bonding primer with adhesion enhancing additives. Designed to adhere to even the most problematic non-absorbent surfaces, the rough textured finish promotes maximum bonding when tiling, levelling, screeding and rendering. Suitable for interior and exterior use and for non-absorbent and absorbent substrates including; existing tiles, asphalt, bitumen, metal, glass, moisture resistant chipboard, lime and gypsum plaster, plaster boards, concrete, screeds, anhydrite, levelling compounds, cement based rendering and wooden surfaces such as plywood and floorboards.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

All surfaces must be clean, firm, dry, free from all loose matter including dust, dirt, oil, grease, laitance and any other contaminants that may affect adhesion. Residual moisture content should not exceed the following values; Cement - 2%, Anhydrite - 0.5%, Heated Anhydrite - 0.3%, Gypsum Plaster - 1% (measured with CM instrument).

APPLICATION

Stir well prior to use. ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer should be used undiluted on non-absorbent surfaces and diluted 1:1 with clean water on absorbent surfaces. Apply evenly with a roller, brush or sponge. Do not over apply as this can cause the primer to form a skin, only a thin coat should be applied. The primer should not be applied to substrates with a temperature of less than 5°C or above 25°C. Please note that anhydrite requires two diluted coats. On non-absorbent surfaces and anhydrite, the primer should be fully dry before next works can commence. Typically this will take between 15-60 minutes. Drying times will vary depending on site conditions. On absorbent surfaces, levelling and tiling can commence whilst the diluted primer is still wet. The following information provides details for priming various common substrates. Unless stated otherwise, any reference to the term “diluted” means 1 part primer mixed with 1 part clean water.

Existing Tiles & Other Non-Porous Substrates - Apply 1 neat coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Metal - Apply 1 neat coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Flooring Grade Asphalt/Bitumen - Ensure the surface is in good condition and there are no signs of debonding and/or hollowness. Apply 1 neat coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Epoxy Damp Proof Membranes - Apply 1 neat coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Chipboard - Apply 1 neat coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer to all exposed edges, joints and surface.

Gypsum Plaster - The surface should be roughened up using a wire brush or other abrasive tool as this will remove the surface laitance. Ensure surface is clean and free from loose matter and apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer. Substrate curing before tiling can commence is approximately 4 weeks.

Plaster Boards - Apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Concrete Screeds - Apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer. Substrate curing before tiling can commence is approximately 6 weeks.

Power Floated Concrete - Once cured, power floated concrete should be mechanically abraded (scabbled or shot blasted) to remove any curing agents and open up the surface, followed by vacuum cleaning to remove any loose material, then apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Sand & Cement Screeds - Apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer. Substrate curing before tiling can commence is approximately 3 weeks.

Anhydrite Screeds - The substrate must not leach moisture. Anhydrite screeds must not have a moisture content greater than 0.5% or 0.3% when part of a heating system. This can easily be tested by taking moisture readings across the whole surface. It is essential that surface laitance is removed in accordance with the screed manufacturer’s recommendations, followed by vacuum cleaning to remove any loose material, then apply 2 diluted coats of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Plywood - Apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Tongue & Groove Boards/Floorboards - Apply 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

Cement Based Tile Backer Boards - Priming prior to tiling is not required if the surface is clean and free from all loose matter. Please note that when applying a levelling compound, prime with 1 diluted coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer.

COVERAGE

Approx. 10m2 per kg. Depending on the absorbency and nature of the substrate, coverage and drying times will vary.

STORAGE

Store unopened, clear of the ground in a cool, dry, frost free environment. Shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture. A small amount of liquid may form on the surface of the material, this can be readily remixed by stirring. If the container is left open for a period of time a skin will form over the material. This skin should be removed and not mixed into the product.
